I have been a landscape photographer for more than forty five years.
I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the
Rochester Institute of Technology. Upon graduation, I was a medical photographer at
Massachusetts General Hospital and then at Hahnemann University Hospital.
My journey into photographic weavings began in November 2020 while I was taking an abstract photography class.
A common theme that kept coming up was how my work was very linear. Studying my printed images, I saw them from different perspectives and ended up cutting one of my images into vertical strips. As I looked at my “deconstructed” photograph I took another image and cut it into horizontal strips. I then proceeded to weave the images together.
I have not had any formal training in weaving although I did take a paper weaving class in
February 2022 and 2023 and there I picked up new weaving techniques.
I am constantly considering new weaving patterns, using handmade paper as well as creating new images to deconstruct.
I print on fine art giclée, Hahnemühle German Etching, Epson Enhanced matte and Red River metallic papers.
All the different papers help to create innovative effects with the weave.
In all this deconstruction I am able to create a new whole, in my art and in myself.
